. 2.Five pages in length. Anything over five and a half pages will be returned for revision.
3.Paper will be dropped one grade for each day it is late. Weekends count as two days.
4.Spelling and grammatical errors will effect the grade on the paper. Make sure you have it proofread by a knowledgeable person. Each of the following errors will result in a two point deduction.Could of – the contraction could’ve is could have (this is also true for other variations of the same contraction)They’re, Their, ThereThey’re is they are (They are going to do something)Their is ownership (That is their money)There is the other meanings (It is over there. There is nothing wrong. Etc.)Alot is NOT a word – it is a lotTo, Two, TooTwo is the number (Two people are a pair)To is a preposition (To be or not to be, …)Too means also or is used as an adjective (I too want to go or That is too much)Writing in the second person (you) – Writing should be done in the third person (i.e. he, she, one, etc.)Any double negative (i.e. I do not want nothing – this means you do want something and is hard on the ears)Any contraction – These are not to be used in formal writingThen/Than – Then relates to time or order. Than is to introduce the second part of a comparison (i.e. more than)Your/you’re – Your is possessive. You’re is the contraction for you are.
5. Topic – Anything that relates to working with people with disabilities (other than ADD/ADHD, or other learning types of disabilities). You should focus on how the disability impacts their activity level and what can be done to help them be as active as possible.
6.All statements must be supported by research. For example, if you think something should be done a certain way, the chances are that a recognized expert in the field has already stated it. You must find and cite that expert.
7.The paper must be referenced appropriately. When in doubt – CITE All sources both in the text as well as in a reference list/bibliography at the end. APA style is used frequently in our field. However, you may use whatever you are comfortable using. Citations can be done as follows: Smith (2005) stated; or the statement is followed by (Smith, 2015). When a direct quote is used the page numbers must also be placed in the reference (i.e. Smith, 2015, p. 43) or Smith (2015) ” ” (p. 43). The journal or book must then be placed in the reference list. All thoughts not your own must be cited – not just the quotations.
8.You must have at least two journals cited and have a minimum of 5 references. If you use a website it must be appropriate (i.e. CDC, NIH, etc.)
9.When proof reading your paper read each sentence with that in it and see if it is necessary. For example, “… some of the normal class work that I was receiving …” reads better when that is removed from the sentence (“… some of the normal class work I was receiving…”)
10.Make each sentence as clear and concise as possible.11.Stop by the office or call if you have questions.12.Papers will be graded on the following criteria: Content (50 pts.), Presentation (30 pts.), Spelling/Grammar (10 pts.), and Citations (this means quality of sources, proper number and types of sources, and proper format – 10 pts.)
