DISCUSSION QUESTION ONE
Greenberg, the author of “Stress Management” offers three different theories about what causes stress and its effects on illness and disease. They are the Life-Events Theory, the Hardiness Theory, and the Social Support Theory. (pg. 8, 13th edition of the text).
In the principles section of the response students should indicate who developed each of these theories and briefly describe the major focus for each.
In the implications section of the response students will apply one or more of these theories to a situational response in a personal, professional, or real life setting. Situational responses should conceptualize stress and its effects. Students will refer to the components of stress and stress reactivity (pgs. 9 to 11, 13th edition of the text).
In the references section of the response all that is needed is the citation information of the text. If any sources other than the text was used then that may also be included in the references. One source is all that is needed.
The three part DQ response will be in no less than 300 words and no more than 400 words.
DISCUSSION QUESTION TWO
In presenting a model of stress, Greenberg maintains that “Stress begins with a life situation that knocks you (gently or abruptly) out of balance” (p. 71 in 2012 text edition or pg. 111 in 2013 text edition). He goes on to note that given the same situation, people react differently. This is because of the different cognitive appraisal of individuals.
In the principles section of the response students will define and explain the Model of Stress (figure 4.3 and figure 4.4 in 2012 text edition or figure 5.3 and 5.4 in 2013 text edition). Explain the five parts of the model (1. Life situation, 2. Perceived as Stressful, 3. Emotional Arousal, 4. Physiological Arousal and 5. Consequences.) What does Greenberg mean when he used the term “roadblock” when discussing the models?
In the implications section of the response students will present a real world situation that demonstrates how the Stress Model works. The situation may be posed in a professional setting such as police or fire service, business, or student and family life. Your response should conceptualize Greenberg’s Stress Model. How might the stressors that you present be reduced?
In the references section of the response all that is needed is the citation information of the text. If any sources other than the text was used then that may also be included in the references. One source is all that is needed.
The three part response should be in no less than 300 words and no more than 400 words.
