DISCUSSION ON MICROBIAL DISEASES

Discussion Board: MICROBIAL DISEASE ASSIGNMENT: As discussed in the chapters in Learning Unit 1, microbes are ubiquitous. Without bacteria we would not exist. However, some microbes are pathogens. This discussion activity focuses on microbial diseases. The requirements for this discussion activity are: 1. research microbial pathogens using the Centers for Disease Control Website. 2. Click on Health Topics A to Z and scroll through the list of topics. 3. Pick a contagious disease caused by a microbe. 4. Summarize in two or three paragraphs, the most important information about the disease such as description of the disease, causative agent, symptoms, cure, vaccine, interesting facts, or whatever you think might be of interest to your classmates. 5. Cite sources used. 6.Post your summary in the Discussions tab–Microbial Diseases. NOTE: You must pick a disease that has not been posted, so the early bird gets a wider choice of topics. Be sure to cite source. A SUBSTANTIVE response is a response in which you support your thoughts about a peer’s response. This means the responses cannot be just “I agree with you” or “good job”. For example, if a peer wrote on Plasmodium falciparum which causes malaria. My response to my peers post would indicate: I enjoyed reading the summary and the level of detail in the response but I would possibly add something that I found interesting on Plasmodium falciparum such as a comment about its unique life cycle that consists of a sexual and asexual phase, or something about the vector or medication to treat malaria, and/or information about recent vaccine trials for malaria. I would even include the website. Your substantive response does not need to be two paragraphs long but it should be longer than two sentences.
