Concept, Action and reflection (CAR) Report – Intercultural Psychology

Objective: To have an understanding of Cultural Differences and how it impacts an individual.
Reflective Report to be in 3 sections: Concept. Action. Reflection

Concepts: Anger, Happiness, Cross-cultural awareness
1) CONCEPT:
Select one concept of interest to you from the following articles:

Note: in the articles there are general overviews of a number of psychology concepts (e.g., anger, happiness, cross-cultural awareness). In your CAR you will need to expand and critique on the concept, based on the relevant scholarly literature.

CONCEPT (cont’d)
Conduct a small scale literature search and familiarise yourself with the emotion related to this concept.
Describe the concept, its meaning and origins, and what some of the contributions of this concept is in a cross-cultural context.
Establish the link between the concept and the ACTION that is related to cross-cultural art and designed by YOU

2) ACTION:
Action in this CAR is required to be something in relation to cross-cultural art (music, film, painting, or poem etc. that is NOT from your own culture). Design your own action that reflects the concept you choose from the article. E.g. what do you feel after watching the foreign film/ media/ listening to song

Note that the cross-cultural art has to be from asia pacific region)
e.g.Japanese, Korean, India, Sri Lanka, Philippines, etc….

For e.g. ACTION:
Example: I would like to employ the concept “happiness” in this CAR. I explore happiness in Japanese pop songs (not from my own Chinese culture). I search Japanese pop songs that express happiness and chose several songs to listen to and to see if I can feel happiness in the songs and use the concept “happiness” to explain it. I may discuss that happiness might be a universal term in music. If I cannot, I may discuss that happiness might be cultural bound in music.

3) REFLECT:
Reflect on the learning experience of conducting the CAR.
Make sure to identify the emotions raised from the action and take a critical approach to apply the concept to discuss the issues.
Any practical/policy implications?
