Comprehensive research essay (Sequential art)

The purpose of the final is to create a comprehensive research essay that demonstrates your knowledge of sequential art and your ability to analyze it in a meaningful manner.

General Criteria:

5-7 pages, 1” margins, a reasonable font and font size, at least two sources, an MLA header, and a title!

Specific Criteria:

Choose an aspect of sequential art that you find particularly interesting and engage in some extended research of that aspect. Aspect is an intentionally vague term that I am using to give you a significant leeway in selecting a research topic. Once you’ve selected an aspect to focus on, I would set about constructing a thesis or claim that you would like argue in your essay. The primary goal here is to setup a relationship between the research, your ideas, and the evidence in the texts. I highly recommend including at least some visuals in your essay.

Some Potential Aspects of Sequential Art to Focus On

The career of a specific sequential artist
The cultural/historical impact of a particular work
The process of going from concept to product
The artistic impact or significance of a particular work
The future of sequential art
Suggestions:
Research projects can be unwieldy, not unlike creative projects, I recommend setting out with a relatively limited scope. You will be surprised at just how much information can be found about a very small aspect of sequential art.
