Community Corrections

For the current assignment you will first, choose one of the three proposed scenarios. Second, you will identify additional sources to support your argument. Finally, you will conduct research on community resources, policies, and/or treatment options within your communities to supplement your discussion.

Scenario #1
Imagine one of your neighbors was recently released on parole from a New Jersey prison after serving a five-year sentence. Write an essay describing a plan of action for the first year he or she is out of prison. Describe his or specific risks and needs, as well as the strengths and resources he or she will draw on to help with the transition from prison to community. Discuss potential problems your neighbor may face in implementing this plan, particularly in the first month after release, and things he/she may do to address these problems. Your plan should be realistic and based on scholarly knowledge about the process of prisoner reentry, risks and needs of this population, and community corrections process (parole specifically) and include proper citations and references. Use the internet to identify 4 services or resources in New Jersey that he or she will utilize to help in the process of reentry from prison to the community and incorporate these resources into your neighbor’s plan. Prepare a table with relevant information such as type of service, agency, location, and hours of operation.
