Concert Critiques are credit or not credit. Refer to your official Syllabus that all critiques must be pre-approved for the type of concert you will attend. Partial lists will be posted on the links of “Latest News” and the “Forum” link in the “Activities” topic box. You should reference the post, “Tips to Listen in Music” with types of comments to be included in your minimum two-full pages or 500+ words in the content body of the critique.
There needs to be a minimum of 5-paragraphs with double-spacing between them in font 12 and no bold print. Each composition music title must be contained within their own paragraph so it doesn’t all run together. Reference my “Sample Concert Critique” link in “Latest News” for clarity. To see all my posts to the class, click on “older topics” at the bottom of the text box and you will find I have sent multiple-posts to the class for helpful tips for this class for the past few weeks…that should have been “clicked and viewed” for your success.
You will need to ANALYZE THREE TITLED COMPOSITIONS PIECES with COMPOSER FULL NAMES if not ARTIST/PERFORMANCE GROUP and DATES of GENRE if not when the composition was written for FULL CREDIT.
Concert Critiques do not require outside resource sources being cited at the bottom of the paper.
How to Write a Concert Report
For any written project, it’s safe to start with the basics. Who, what, when, where, how, why (did you like/dislike).
–What impressed you most about the performance? Why?
–Why did you like/dislike the music? Did one song stand out from all the others?
–Describe the performers. Were they connecting with the audience or just ignoring them? Were they expressive or just going through the motions?
–Can you connect the musical terms and concepts you learned from this course with the live performance of the musicians? Explain using examples.
Don’t forget Moodle is not set up for words or letters (only numbers) that show in your Grade Book link. In order to show credit, you will be given 1-point, and if the concert critique was not submitted or didn’t meet the criteria for the assignment after revision, you will receive a zero (0) for no-credit, which will lower your final letter grade for the session.
