Chicano Site Visit Assignment, first-person paper

This assignment will require that you go out into the community and experience an event/site first-hand. I will provide some suggestions during the course of the class, but it will be up to you to find a site/event.

You will write a 2 page paper using MLA formatting, and refer to the readings to support your findings. It is important that you connect the site/event to the course materials. Be sure to demonstrate how the history and culture of Chicanas/os influenced the site/event.

For this assignment, you simply need to go out into the community and connect what you see and observe to the course materials and topics. This is a first-person paper, that does not need citations or references, just connection to the class topic. This is meant to be a fun assignment!

For sites, you can pick either Chicano Park or the The Juniper Serra Museum in Presidio Park in San Diego, CA to write on. But, I will need to know as soon as possible so that I can go take pictures at the sight.
Here are some of the readings that we have covered that you can compare the first person story to: Banning ethnic studies, the Mexican-American War, Mexican women at war, Mexican Americans in WWII, and the Dream Act.

12-point New Times Roman Font
1-inch margins all around
Double-spaced
Include page numbers
Word Document format (.doc or .docx) or Adobe format (.pdf)
Include quotation marks & in-text citations whenever including someone else’s words and ideas
When paraphrasing, be sure to include in-text citations
