“Today, home movie exhibition is again in transition, this time from DVD to Internet streaming” (221).

I chose this quote because it reminds me of one of the last times I ever stepped foot into a Blockbuster. I was with my family and we rented about four DVD’s then, next thing I knew, they were shutting it all down. In my life-time, I have used VHS, DVD’S, Blu-Rays, and now, Internet streaming. It amazes me how much change I’ve seen in my short twenty years of life.

I’m not innocent to the reason why Blockbuster shut down and why DVD’s are no longer as popular as Internet streaming. I remember the first website I was introduced to that would let you see movies for free was 123movies. I didn’t need to ask my mother to buy me the latest Disney movie when I could just ask my older brother to let me borrow his laptop and I had the movie right there, for free. Then, came Netflix which I asked my mom to subscribe to because it offered hundreds of movies for the cost of one DVD. I have contributed to this transition of DVD’s to Internet streaming and it’s honestly just more convenient. I do miss the tradition of heading over to Blockbuster to have movie night but, I like having hundreds of movies one click away just as much.

I chose this quote because I felt like Disney played a special part in my childhood. They had impacted my youth at a very young age, when you think about Disney you think about it being so magical. Age does not exist when it comes to watching these popular movies that are in high demand. The Disney studio really did a great job marketing toys that are in these fast food ties ins. I have a little sister and every time we would go to McDonald’s she would ask for a kids meal specifically for the toy. She did not care about the food, but whenever she got handed her kids meal with no toy she would end up throwing a tantrum. The theme park attractions is what gave Disneyland life meaning, this is why it’s so popular because it’s so mesmerizing to look at.

At the end of the day, many of us look at Disney for an escape from the real world, wether it would be watching anything Disney related or going to the theme park. It can change our moods so quick, that’s how much joy they bring us. The fact that Disney is apart of people’s happiness is really beautiful to see because it brings many people together and create memories with one another. I had went to Disneyland a couple years back for my birthday and knowing I had my closest family members hang out with me that day made me the happiest girl ever.
