Please prepare a textbook review for your final paper. It should be 7- 10 pages (typed double space) excluding cover page and reference page. USE YOUR TEXTBOOK ONLY TO PREPARE THIS REVIEW.
For this assignment, you are reviewing a book for your HRM professor. Consider the kinds of information they may want or need to keep current in their teaching. In reading and then drafting your review, the following plan and questions should serve as directions to complete this assignment:
Introduction: In the introduction summarize the topic of the chapter and tell how it relates to this course (at least 2 paragraphs or ½ page)
What is the book’s content? (i.e., summarize and assess the major ideas in the book.) How is it organized? How well does the organization work?
Body or main points: Explain 8 to 10 major points from the book and tell how the author supports each point from the textbook by providence evidence or sources. Your sources must be in APA format.
What does the author promise the book will deliver? How well does the author succeed in delivering on that promise? How readable is the book? If it is a difficult read, is it worth potential readers? Time and energy to struggle through the text? Is the writing uneven at points? Has the book anything new to say or is it plowing familiar ground? What are the limitations of the book? (All books have these; good authors note them.) How did the chapter supplement the material in the text and the lectures? Was the chapter well written? Did the author cover the topic as well as you expected? What questions about the people/events did the chapter not answer? How is the chapter relevant to your actual job of your future position? What—if any—issues, situations, policies, personality types, etc. How will you plan to use this textbook?
Conclusion (personal learning): Be sure to explain in one page or 3 paragraphs, what did you learn while taking the text or during your reading. Will you encourage someone to take this class? Why or why not? What is the best part about this course?
Format: Reviews typically run 8-10 typed pages. Your paper must be in APA format your cover page must include a running head (an abbreviated title, no more than 50 characters long and is in all capital letters) and page number, title, author name(s), and college affiliation – all double-spaced. Margins: 1-inch margins on all sides of the page; Font: readable font without serifs (give preference to the Times New Roman). Size: Font size 12 pt.
