Part I: COMMUNICATIVE Development (half a page other than transcription) 1. Fill in the first part of transcription form (page 1) and transcribe 10 additional utterances of the child (51-60). Make sure you follow the established example, including the adult utterances and describing the context. You can use the two pages with red headers for your transcription (one will probably be sufficient). Include the transcript in your report. 2. Write one paragraph about his use of gestures and nonverbal communication. Give examples. Are they age appropriate? 3. Write one paragraph describing his use of conversational and/or narrative skills. Part II: PHONOLOGICAL Development (half a page) Which sounds should Dietrich be saying for his age and does he produce them? Which does he use that are ‘advanced’ for his age? Is he missing any sounds for his age and therefore is delayed? What conclusions can you make as you compare his use of initial, medial and final sounds? Part III: LEXICAL, MORPHOLOGICAL & SYNTACTIC Development (one page) 1. Discuss Dietrich’s Lexical development. 2. Write a paragraph connecting Dietrich’s lexical development to a quote from our slides the same topic on. You should type out the quote (and Lecture and slide number). Explain. 3. Write about the child’s MLU as it relates to his syntactic development. Begin your writing with what is MLU? How is it calculated? Then state his MLU score. Argue whether your child is developing normally is delayed or is advanced for MLU? Discuss the minimum and maximum lengths of his utterances and give examples. 4. Write one paragraph about the child’s development of negation. What should your child be producing at his age for negation? Is he doing internal or external negation? Is the child’s use of negation normal for his age? Give examples from the transcription of the video. Part IV: Presenting the findings (one page) Use the paragraph format below to present a summary letter/report to a parent. Use a real letter format with salutations (Dear XXX, Sincerely XXX) Should be ONE page max. Paragraph 1 – introduce yourself and your training as an SLP – schools you attended? Degrees? Describe Dietrich and how you collected the data/created the transcription. Paragraph 2 – describe the child’s morphological development Be sure to discuss Brown’s stages. Paragraph 3 – describe the child’s syntactic development. Be sure to discuss MLU findings. Paragraph 4 – Concluding paragraph – Overall, is he normal, delayed, advanced?
