Case Study Scenario #1 – Healthcare Workforce Planning – Employee Turnover and Retention
You are a human resources director in the HR department of a large, not-for-profit hospital. The senior leadership team and administration are concerned about excessive employee turnover at the hospital in both clinical and nonclinical roles resulting in high costs and lower productivity. Turnover can be both external and internal to a company as employees leave the organization through quitting, firing, retirements or internally by transferring to another department. After meeting with the leaders, the HR Vice President has concluded that employee retention is a major issue and assigns you the task of analyzing turnover rates and assessing retention practices at the hospital. He requests a work plan to present to the senior leadership team and administration. Prepare your work plan by answering the following questions:
1. Which HR metrics or data would you analyze for turnover and retention?
