Self-Monitoring/Behavior Modification Project: For this paper, you will choose a personal behavior that you would like to change. This can be biting your nails, eating fewer sweets, exercising more, quitting smoking, and the like. Once you’ve selected a behavior, you will monitor it through daily data collection for a 7 day period (write a paragraph or chart of behavioral observations everyday). Then, you will implement a behavior change or attempt to modify your behavior and write about your success or failures over a 7 day period. More information will be given on this assignment in class.
EXPECTATIONS FOR BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION PAPER
-Title page in APA format, including headers
-Abstract, briefly explain what you did, why you did it, and whether it worked.
-Introduction: Talk about the behavior you’re trying to increase or decrease, discuss 2 relevant journal articles or other PRIMARY sources.
-Method: Explain how you’re going to change your behavior. What exactly are you doing? Is it punishment or reinforcement? Is it positive or negative? What schedule are you using, and why?
-Results: Explain what happened during your baseline period (i.e., the seven days before your intervention). If this data is quantitative, please include a graph. Then, explain what happened during your intervention period. Again, a graph would help if your data is quantifiable. If your data is qualitative, give me a paragraph for each day explaining your behavior and how it changed or did not change.
-Discussion: Based on the data you presented in your results section, did your intervention work? Why or why not? If your intervention worked, do you think the behavior change will persist after you stop reinforcing/punishing it? If your intervention didn’t work, what could you have done to change it?
