A larger part of this semester was spent researching a topic to create an Annotated Bibliography and an Inquiry-Based Research Essay. For your final part of this project, you will create an Informative Research Flyer.

For this assignment, imagine that you wanted to inform more people about your topic. You could stand on a street corner and read your essay, or email a copy to everyone you know, but let’s be honest: no one would read or listen. Essays are great for audiences that are looking to learn more, but not so great for mass-marketing.
So instead, I want you to compose and create a document that you might use for informing a great number of people to raise awareness about a topic. You can picture yourself trying to start an interest club, or trying to alleviate a social issue or problem, or trying raise money to support a cause.
Create a hand-out or flyer that you might use to distribute to the audience. A hand-out should be two pages (think of it as front & back). You can imagine this hand-out being a paper copy, or something digital that you might use as a web page or sent via email. Your flyer should accomplish the following goals:
You need to inform your audience about the topic. Remember, they might know nothing about it – think about what an audience might already know about your topic, and what might they need to know to understand your flyer.
What are the main ideas that you want them to understand and take-away from this topic?
In this type of composition, remember that less is more – to be effective, you will need to be selective about what needs to be said.
Why should they care? Make your audience want to know more.
Remember that if you use direct quotes charts, or graphs, you should still indicate that it came from another source. Most non-academic writing will accomplish this through an attribution rather than a citation.
Think about most flyers you see – many of them use pictures or other visual aids to make their point. Feel free to use pictures, graphs, charts, whatever it takes to get your message out.
Remember that flyers do not have to look like essays or letters. Use bullet points, text boxes, different colors or fonts. You can arrange the information anyway you would like – whatever you think is most effective.
