Objective: Explore the major ideas of Existentialism.
Mindset: Visualize Existentialism in contemporary American culture.
Instructions
The goal of Existentialism is to transcend the despair and meaninglessness of Nihilism. It takes two basic forms: Atheistic Existentialism, which feeds off Naturalism; and Theistic Existentialism, which feeds off Christian Theism. The major concern of Existentialism is our humanity and how we can be significant in an otherwise insignificant world.
Read Chapter 6 of The Universe Next Door by Sire.
Consider the existentialist mantra, “I exist as a human. In my existence, I define myself and the world around me.”
Draw a simple picture (on a blank 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper) that symbolizes this philosophy.
