Assessment Task 2

STRUCTURE:
It is recommended that your 3000-word piece of writing should be structured as follows:
Introduction: Your introduction should outline key features, performance measures and challenges for your chosen health system and indicate what current system-wide reforms will be discussed, and why. (300-400 words)
Search strategy: Write a summary of how you found relevant academic literature by outlining your search strategy, (search engine and database used, naming your search terms, detailing additional methods that you used for identifying relevant references, Boolean operators, inclusion/exclusion criteria, grey literature, government websites). This should include a summary of the type of sources and date range (you are encouraged to focus on literature from the last 5 years). Comment on how you evaluated the relevance or value of the academic and non-academic literature. (200-300 words)
Body: In this section you need to expand on the outline presented in the introduction, go beyond describing the system-wide reforms and critically analyse the literature by identifying the main arguments presented and if there are differing perspectives or gaps in the literature. Comment on the likely impact on the measures of efficiency, equity, and quality. Consider how national policies, values, and expectations shape health system reforms. What lessons might these reforms hold for Australia, particularly for primary health care reform? You can also make comment on other emergent themes from your literature search (academic and non-academic) that interest you, and why? (1500-1800 words)
Conclusion: Your conclusion should summarise the lessons learnt from the international health reforms and comment on the applicability for health system innovation in Australia. (300-500 words)
NOTES:
1. You should refer to the guidelines for a literature review in Topic 4 and in the Assessment Information Folder on MyLO. Productive search strategy can be initiated by combining the terms of ‘health system reform’ AND ‘country’ AND ‘financing’ or ‘workforce’ etc.
2. Evidence of your search strategy can be done by providing screenshots of your database search results (just the first page) in a separate file and upload to the Assessment folder in MyLO as an appendix, alongside your literature review file and cover sheet. There is no requirement to show the results of your non-academic literature search (but these still need to be referenced).
3. It is recommended that you use an electronic reference manager such as Endnote.
4. Structure your arguments for the reader. Use subheadings to organise.
5. Ensure the content is relevant by carefully selecting what literature you include, such as landmark papers and current data from authoritative sources.
6. Use your own words to describe and interpret what you read, avoid subjective opinions, emotional phrases and avoid excessive quoting.
