After you have reviewed the Module 1 SLP, address these points:
Analyze the major components of an internal organizational analysis.
Apply SWOT to the selected organization.
Interpret the analysis into terms of ‘strengths’ and ‘weaknesses.’
The intent of the SLP is for you to apply the theoretical and general aspects covered in each module to a real-life, practical project and to enhance your research skills in the process.
The SLP revolves around the strategic management of a health care organization of your choice. You will survey the organization and assess its current strategic plan, or if one is lacking, propose one of your own.
The organization you select should be one that you know well. It is recommended that you pick the one you work for—that way, you will have better access to information. If you select a different organization (and you may), make sure it is one for which you can easily find information.
As each module focuses on a specific topic within the strategic management process, we will implement the theory to your real-life organization. Thus, we will cover the full process, one portion (module) at a time.
SLP Assignment Expectations
The SLP is a cumulative project that will demonstrate the culmination of your understanding and your ability to:
Choose a topic.
Conduct a relevant literature review.
Research current practices in the field of choice.
Analyze and synthesize the researched materials.
Write and present a comprehensive academic paper.
Note: The SLP is not merely a survey and observation of one’s working environment. It is research-oriented; that is, you will support your assessment/recommendations by referencing them in your research paper.

The complete SLP will consist of the following sections:

Manuscript (a minimum of 10 pages)
Reference list in APA format
Address the following points:
Identify the health care organization of your choice.
Define the organization’s strategic philosophy.
Describe the organization’s mission or purpose.
Identify the organization’s long- and short-term objectives.

The above article will assist you in responding to some of the following points:
Describe how the plan, mission, vision, and goals were defined and applied.
Describe and elaborate organizational culture and how it relates to the style of management used. What style of management is used (e.g., authoritarian, participative, etc.)?

Is this organization fiscally sound? What are its main sources of income? (Look up the company.)

Based on your answers to all of the above, assess the strengths and weaknesses of the present organizational structure.
Identify at least one of the organization’s goals.
Describe at least two different options that allow the organization to either leverage the trend or mitigate the negative impact of the trend.
Health organizations are very large and complex. If you make a quick list of all the departments, facilities, and personnel of even a small hospital, you will immediately see that it is quite a mosaic. It can be mind boggling to evaluate a major hospital or a network of health care services.
Therefore, this course cannot encompass all the fine details of each organization. It is up to you to “transform” the generalities to a specific field or organization.
