Hello, this is an argumentative essay about the philosopher Camus and absurdity
I must use example of character we have spoken about throughout the semester to support our thesis … I will use the movie “Groundhog Day” main character Phil Conners to discuss absurdity
Absurdity/Subjectivity/Nihilism (Camus, Schopenhauer, or Edwards)
Is life absurd and in what way? Is it absurd in the way that Camus describes it? If so, how are we to live our lives? What would be a necessary or sufficient condition in order to escape the absurdity of life? What is the right response to absurdity?
Is it impossible for there to be objective meaning? Is life itself meaningless? Can one still live a meaningful life if there is no objective meaning?
These are examples of what the arguments can be about …
One of these themes must be argued in the thesis and throughout the essay … with examples.
You may choose, for example, to argue against one of the particular objective approaches to the question, by finding a person who lives a meaningful life but does not have that condition (thus showing that the condition is not necessary). You may choose to argue that a person might lead a life following that view and still not live a meaningful life (showing that the conditions is not sufficient).
You should be detailed in your description of this character’s life and why it is or is not meaningful – both according to you and according to the author you are responding to.
