Argument Paper: Gun Issue and Mass Shootings

For opening paragraphs:
The claim here seems unresolved. I think you’re getting the point of the “they say I say” set up, but you need to follow it with a more authoritative claim.

Also, I’m curious about what you mean by “optimism.” Do you mean we will start having fewer mass shootings? Do you mean we will start putting common sense restrictions on gun ownership? It’s possible that both things could happen, but you need to define what you mean.

This looks like a good start, but it really needs some more specific language mapping out the argument.

For thesis statement, a qualifier, and a counter-argument:
1) Thesis statement

The issue of gun policy and control has been a bone of contention in the United States, and it usually escalates after a mass shooting. Various debates frequently erupt from different factions in the country and which includes both pro-strict gun policy and anti-strict gun policy.

2) One qualifier

I have an optimistic view about gun police and gun control. But the key is still the law.

3) One counter-argument

One could note that the argument given herein on reducing mass shootings is more reliant on changes in the law, and claim that other factors can be attributed to the vice (Watkins, 2020).

For the ouline:
Well, it looks like you went and wrote the paper. This was supposed to be an outline assignment. I’ll give you most of the credit for submitting something with substance, but I’d feel a lot better about things if the paper were preceded by an outline.

As for the paper, it has some admirable flourishes of sophisticated language. It does still need some work on clarity. There are times when it seems like the ideas aren’t fully expressed.

Work on polishing it.
