ANALYZING ARGUMENT STRUCTURE

This week, you will practice your structure and organization skills by outlining an argument for a specific topic. To get started, visit the list “401 Prompts for Argumentative Writing” recently published by The New York Times. This list includes a great variety of topics organized by theme for you to explore. Include the following components in your outline. Introduction Hook: What would you use as a hook? Background Information: What background information would you need to include for your audience to fully understand your topic and argument? Thesis: What is your point of view on the issue? Body Main Ideas: What main ideas would you include in the body of your response? Evidence: What types of evidence would you need to include to help support your main ideas? Organization: What ideas should come first? How will your main ideas build on one another? Conclusion Synthesis: How will you recap your argument? Method: What method will you use in your conclusion to engage the audience? Your initial post should include your basic outline.
