1. Describe the term Gestalt. What is the role and function of the group leader in a gestalt group?
This week we turn our attention to Gestalt & Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. While many students may be familiar with popular interventions and techniques (e.g. Empty Chair, Thought Recording, etc.) associated with these approaches, it is important to have an strong understanding of the underlying principles of these approaches when conducting group work. For example, while Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy may seem clear-cut because of its more structured approach, facilitators must still have understanding of why certain methods are used and when it is appropriate to introduce them. Please follow the link below for additional comments on these group therapy approaches:https://youtu.be/Vo0OTa_d2IU
2.Describe and define the importance of CBT in group therapy. Use this weeks reading on CBT to guide you.
CBT Psychology. (n.d.). Group therapy for people with anxiety and depression. [Online forum]. https://cbtpsychology.com/group-therapy/

3. What are the concepts related to reality therapy? What is an example of an issue that could be treated with reality therapy group?
s you consider how issues that could be addressed using this approach, you’re encouraged to consider how Reality Therapy could be applied to the group itself; particularly when there are relationship concerns. What can be beneficial for groups is a shared understanding of the drives which underlay the behaviors of others. While individuals may not agree with the actions of others, at times progress can be made when there is at least acceptance (or understanding) of the motivations of others. For example, a group member may insist the room is locked after the group has ended which could frustrate others who are unable to make it on time each week. RT would assess what is behind the individual’s insistence which could be a need for security.

4. Discuss the key concepts in psychoanalytic groups. What is the goal of psychoanalytic approach to group therapy?
6.Describe the importance of multicultural competence as a vital constituent of ethical counseling practice in group work.
This week we turn our attention to Psychoanalytic Approaches to Group. It is important to note that many of the approaches we have reviewed so far are extensions of psychoanalytic therapy. And, like other approaches, there is variability in how this theoretical approach can be used in practice. Psychoanalytically oriented group leaders vary in leadership style, format of group (e.g., brief vs. long-term), and interventions/techniques used. Here is a presentation with more highlights regarding this approach:https://youtu.be/0ZCMDQ6_L8k
5. What are transference and countertransference? How can transference be used in the psychoanalytic approach to group therapy?
6. Describe the importance of multicultural competence as a vital constituent of ethical counseling practice in group work.
This week we turn our focus to a Multicultural Perspective with Group Counseling. It is important that we develop proper competency in working with diverse groups in a manner that acknowledges and integrates diverse perspectives.
Please note that the assigned reading (DeLucia-Waack, J. L., Cynthia R. Kalodner, M.R. (2013). Handbook of Group Counseling and Psychotherapy. SAGE Publications) is no longer available through the Touro Library and will be removed from future sections of the course.
However, in addition to the other listed readings, I have provided another optional reading for Module 8 (Extending the Multicultural Orientation (MCO) Framework to Group Psychotherapy). Please find all readings sent via attachment in email.
7. Identify the most important aspect of group counseling
8. you will find a powerpoint to use as a guide in to administer and form some interpretations of the House-Tree-Person (HTP) test. You will also find a blank sheet of the first page of the Rotter Incomplete Sentences.
You will administer the HTP and Rotter Incomplete Sentences to one person and formulate some preliminary interpretations.
9. What questions do you have about the WJ-IV and discrepancy testing or other testing in the schools?
10. Tell us if you have any first-hand experience with discrepancy testing and what the process was like. It seems that there is always some concern with this topic- concern that child might be labeled as learning disordered and that it could set the child back. What are your thoughts about this? Is this a valid concern? Or is it misplaced empathy?
another sample report. You will see that the same type of information is included, but some of the categories are different and some of the ways the test results are reported are different. There are different styles out there that different psychologists prefer, as mentioned earlier.
After reading the report, please provide a DSM5 diagnosis for this patient. Make sure explain the criteria and apply it to the case. disagree with any of your peers about the diagnosis? Please show that this person meets all the diagnostic criteria for your diagnosis.
