Based on material covered this semester such as: socio-political historical background information, novel and short fiction, class discussions, presentations, video, philosophical constructs, and your own research, the objective of this take-home examination is to discover how well you have mastered the complex material offered and the extent to which you are able to integrate your understanding of these ideas into a clear, concise and insightful essays.

Explain why these themes are sources of influence by selecting best evidence to illustrate your deep understanding of their importance. (40%)

Reflect on how Caribbean musical art forms and Classical Greek philosophical material introduced in this course have expanded your awareness.
a) Compare the structure of Plato’s Republic with that of Caribbean colonial society. Show how each construct reveals the values and principles held by the principals in the model/society.
b) Discuss the importance of a musical art form active in the Caribbean that comments on and disseminates information to listeners and shapes opinion. Mention specifics to support your response. (40%)
