PROMPT:
As Carl Zimmer (2014) concludes in his essay ‘Why We Can’t Rule Out Bigfoot’, science is not about proving things true, but rather reducing the number of possible explanations about natural phenomena. We raise questions and do our best to address them with Science. Why? Well, as discussed in lecture and through courses many of you have enrolled in here at UF and elsewhere, science is pragmatic, reliable, rational, objective, and dynamic. It is also self-correcting (thanks to the power of peer review) and repeatable by means of empirical exercises, new discoveries, and, careful observation and experimentation. As reviewed in Zimmer (2014), no evidence analyzed to date proves that bigfoot existed, nor does the evidence prove that bigfoot does not exist. In this instance, the scientific method truly does keep bigfoot alive Bigfoot Source: Zimmer (2014)
INSTRUCTIONS:
In this assignment, outline the significant scientific steps—in terms of hypothesis testing—that Sykes et al. (2012) use to address the validity of bigfoot. Please do not simply reiterate the author’s study, but rather focus your narrative on how the author’s apply the scientific method in their research using the null hypothesis. Be concise in your writing and logical and you must cite any work used to make your point at the end of the sentence (e.g., Zimmer, 2014) (and as is done in the Syke’s et al. article). One typed-page only, single-spaced and 12 point font. DO NOT GO OVER ONE PAGE (including references). Include your name at the top of the page and upload your assignment by the due date.
